Circumnavigating Australia's coastline would be a dream trip for most adventure riders, but how many would attempt it on a chip fat-powered bike? Aussie author and ex-oil rigger Paul Carter did just that, and has now published a book about his eco adventure.
Forty-year-old Carter set off last year from his home in Perth on 'Betty', an experimental bio-fuel motorcycle, powered by used cooking oil and on loan from the University of Adelaide. He rode through Darwin, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, using an estimated 650 litres of greased lightening along the way.
